WHO WE ARE
Action for Education is an independent, grassroots organisation founded in the UK in 2017. We develop projects that aim to build pathways back into education for displaced communities. Building on our extensive knowledge and experience, we seek to provide new and innovative responses for teaching and supporting educational services in crisis situations.
We currently have three main areas of operation:
Refugee Education Chios which provides educational services on Chios Island to refugees to whom this right is otherwise denied.
Chios Voices, an online advocacy platform that promotes the voices of those trapped at the borders of the European Union.
The Halcyon Days Project providing educational services to female asylum-seekers and refugees living in Athens.
Building on the expertise of our team and our experiences running refugee education projects, AFE is committed to developing volunteer led projects that are professionally run placing its participants at the centre of its services.
We pride ourselves on being:
Participant-centered: we place the participant at the centre of our services, ensuring that we understand who they are, where they have come from and what they want to achieve through our programmes.
Open and not scared to change: we are constantly reviewing our programmes asking for feedback from our students and volunteer team. We are never scared to change something if it does not work.
Flexible: Our approach of delivering projects through a majority volunteer team ensures we are able to remain extremely flexible, scaling up and down depending on the often changing and volatile situation on the ground.
